FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the MGLC?

The Marcellus Girls Lacrosse Club is comprised of board members, coaches and volunteers who are parents of current and past players. These individuals are unpaid and volunteer numerous hours strictly for the benefit of the girls in our community and to facilitate the goals outlined in our mission statement.

At what age do girls start playing lacrosse?

The Upstate Lacrosse Association (ULA) begins with a third- and fourth-grade league. The divisions are based on grade level of the participants (5th/6th, 7th/8th). The MGLC enters one or two teams in each division, based on registration.

The MGLC invites girls younger than third grade to attend beginners' clinics and shoot-around practices to learn skills. At these opportunities, girls are grouped in similar age brackets, learning the basic skills through positive coaching techniques.

The MGLC encourages girls from any age group to begin playing. It's never too late to begin playing lacrosse. We are a completely inclusive club.

The Upstate Lacrosse Association (ULA) league runs from mid-June to late July.

The MGLC also participates in winter indoor leagues at The Ultimate Goal in Marcellus.

What equipment is required?

Players will need a girls' lacrosse stick, goggles and a mouth guard. When beginning, the MGLC will loan sticks and goggles to players until they decide to commit to the sport. Players should provide their own mouth guard.

Discussing with your child's coach what type of stick to purchase and where to make that purchase is appropriate when parents are ready.

Is lacrosse dangerous?

The equipment and rules for womens'/girls' lacrosse are designed and implemented for the safety of the players.

How much does it cost to join?

There is no membership fee to join the MGLC. Prices for leagues (ULA outdoor, indoor, etc.) and tournaments usually depend on the number of players registered for each team.

The ULA summer league costs $85 for the first family member and decreases by $5 for each additional sibling. This price includes all games, practices, opening-weekend tournament, end-of-year picnic, small gift and a Lions Club duck ticket.

No child will be denied the opportunity to play based on financial reasons.
